UltraTeb Market Access

Frequently asked questions

Last verified:

UltraTeb Market Access lets a foreign manufacturer of medical devices, consumables or lab/IVD products sell in Egypt with zero upfront fees: we do the market study, register, import, pay duty and VAT, store, market and sell, and you are paid when it sells. The most common questions are about timing — a new sterile device realistically needs 6–12 months of registration before it can be sold, while a new IVD can be sold for 6 months while its file is pending — and about payment, which follows the sale.

UltraTeb Market Access is a zero-upfront-fee route into Egypt's medical market: UltraTeb registers, imports, markets, stores and sells your product, shares the risk, and pays you when it sells.

Commercial terms — duration, exclusivity, the end of the partnership, prices for a specific product — are agreed privately in the distribution agreement. Ask us at access@ultrateb.com.

What is the idea behind the programme?

“We do everything, we give you full access, and we only make money once we sell.” — Mohamed Dabees, Founder, UltraTeb

Frequently asked questions

What is UltraTeb Market Access?

A programme of UltraTeb, an Egyptian medical supplies company, for foreign manufacturers who want to sell in Egypt. We handle the market study, pricing, EDA registration, import, customs, duty and VAT, warehousing, marketing and sales, and we pay you when your products sell.

Who is it for?

Manufacturers of medical devices, sterile and non-sterile consumables, and laboratory/IVD products; exporters, trading houses and OEM factories with the manufacturer's authorisation; distributors and buyers in Africa and the Middle East; Egyptian manufacturers; and service partners such as freight forwarders and regulatory consultants.

What does 'zero upfront fees' mean?

You pay us nothing before your products sell. The market study, pricing, registration, import, customs duty and VAT, warehousing, marketing and the sales launch are funded by UltraTeb. All commercial terms are agreed in writing in the distribution agreement before your first shipment.

How does UltraTeb earn money?

From selling your products in Egypt. We earn the difference between our selling price and the price agreed with you per product, so we only earn when your products sell. We do not publish margins.

What does 'we share the risk' mean?

We fund the launch — study, registration, import, duty, VAT, storage and marketing — before any sale. If the product does not sell, we have spent our money too. That is why we study every product before we accept it.

Which products do you accept?

Medical devices (Class I to III), sterile and non-sterile consumables, and laboratory/IVD reagents, tests, plastics, glassware and equipment that can be registered in Egypt and sold at a competitive price.

Do you accept pharmaceuticals?

No. No medicines, vaccines, serums or blood products.

Do you accept every product?

No. We decline products we do not believe we can register and sell, and we tell you why.

Do you accept manufacturers from any country?

Yes. Manufacturers from EDA reference countries (for example EU members, the USA, Japan, Switzerland, the UK) usually move faster. Certificates from other countries, such as China, India, Turkey or Korea, must be legalised, and some products are sample-tested (EDA guideline).

Can a trading company or exporter apply?

Yes, with the manufacturer's written authorisation to supply Egypt. EDA asks for a legalised letter from the factory when the supplier is not the manufacturer.

Can Egyptian manufacturers apply?

Yes. We distribute in Egypt and, step by step, help with next markets through in-country partners.

How do I apply?

Fill in the application form. Step 1 (company, work email, country, product category) takes about 2 minutes. Step 2 asks about your products, certificates and shelf life; it is optional but speeds up the study.

What happens after I apply?

You receive an email from access@ultrateb.com, in your language, with the next steps and the documents we need. If the product fits, we start the free market study.

Is the market study really free?

Yes.

What does the market study contain?

Demand and buyer segments, competition (imports and Egyptian manufacturers), price bands and landed cost, the registration route and timeline, the channel plan (private sector, tenders or both), a pilot recommendation, and the risks.

How long does the market study take?

It depends on the product and on how quickly we receive your documents. We tell you the expected date when we start.

What documents do you need for the study?

Your catalogue, certificates (CE or FDA evidence, ISO 13485, Free Sale Certificate), export price list, shelf life and storage conditions.

What kind of contract do we sign?

A distribution agreement with sell-through payment terms. EDA requires the distribution contract to be authenticated by a Chamber of Commerce and the Egyptian embassy or consulate (EDA guideline), and we prepare it with you for that.

How long is the agreement, and is it exclusive?

We start with a small pilot. The duration of the agreement and any exclusivity are agreed with you in writing in the distribution agreement.

Can I end the partnership?

The terms for ending the partnership — notice, unsold stock and the costs we funded — are agreed in writing in the distribution agreement before your first shipment.

Why start with a small pilot?

A small first order tests real demand at a real price with little stock at risk on either side. If it sells, we plan larger orders together.

Who registers my product with EDA?

We handle the registration end to end. Egyptian rules require a locally licensed company to file — a foreign manufacturer cannot hold an Egyptian registration directly (EDA variations guideline). How the registration is handled if the partnership ends is set out in the distribution agreement.

How long does registration take?

Plan for 6–12 months for a new device on the normal track; the US Commercial Service reports a 4–9-month review. Files needing legalisation, samples or a scientific committee can take longer.

Can my product be sold before registration is complete?

It depends on the product. A new IVD may be sold for 6 months while its file is pending. Many non-sterile Class I items can be imported with a file acceptance number plus a DoC or FSC. Sterile devices cannot be released until registered.

What is an EDA reference country?

A country whose approvals EDA relies on: the EU member states, Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, the USA and the UK. Certificates from these countries need no legalisation when EDA can verify them with the issuer (EDA guideline).

Which certificates do I need?

Usually a Declaration of Conformity, a Free Sale Certificate, a CE certificate for Class IIa and above (or FDA evidence on the US route), and ISO 13485:2016, valid for at least 3 months from submission.

Do labels need to be in Arabic?

Consultant sources report Arabic and English labelling and instructions for devices, and IVD outer packs must carry the Egyptian registration number. We check your labelling in the study and tell you what to change.

Do I pay for registration?

No upfront fee. Registration is funded by UltraTeb. Your own costs stay on your side: producing your documents and legalising them in your country where EDA requires it.

What is CargoX, and what do I need to do?

CargoX is the platform on which foreign exporters upload shipping documents for Egypt's Advance Cargo Information system. You register once (USD 15 verification) and, for each shipment, upload the invoice, certificate of origin and bill of lading or air waybill at least 48 hours before arrival. We file the ACID number and guide you.

Can I ship before the import approval?

No. EDA's import approval must exist before the goods ship. We tell you when to ship.

Who pays customs duty and VAT?

We do, at clearance.

How much duty applies?

Often 0% for EU, EFTA, UK or Turkish origin under trade agreements with a valid origin certificate; typically 2–10% for other origins, depending on the HS line.

What VAT rate applies?

The standard rate is 14%. Since 29 July 2026, 5% applies to medical devices used to provide a service. We confirm the rate per product.

Where is my stock kept?

In our warehouse in Egypt, tracked by lot and expiry date and picked first-expiry-first-out.

Can you handle cold-chain products?

We agree the storage and delivery conditions for each temperature-controlled product with you before the pilot, and we accept the product only when we can meet them.

Who do you sell to?

Private hospitals and hospital groups, laboratories and lab chains, clinics and medical centres, professional buyers on our B2B web shop, and public tenders run by the Unified Procurement Authority (UPA) where your product can compete.

How do you market my product?

After the EDA advertising approval: product pages in Arabic and English, Google and Meta campaigns, marketplace and social listings, launch content in Arabic, and our sales team. Medical devices may not be advertised without EDA approval.

Can you guarantee sales or a tender award?

No. Nobody can honestly guarantee sales or a tender award. The market study shows the demand and competition, and we recommend a pilot only when we believe the product can sell.

Do you send promotional WhatsApp messages?

No. We answer WhatsApp enquiries that buyers start themselves; we never send promotional WhatsApp messages.

When am I paid?

When we sell. For private-sector sales you are paid for the units sold on the schedule in your agreement, based on a monthly statement. For public-tender sales you are paid once the paying hospital has paid us.

In which currency am I paid?

In the currency of your agreed price per product, usually USD or EUR, through the banking system against the import documents.

Is foreign currency available in Egypt?

Yes. Banks reported no queues for import FX in November 2024, and net international reserves reached USD 52.6 billion in January 2026. Before your first shipment we confirm the payment route with our bank in writing.

What reporting do I get?

Full visibility: stock by lot and expiry date, sales by channel and customer segment, enquiries, quotes, orders, tenders, registration status, monthly statements and payments.

What happens to unsold stock?

How unsold or short-dated stock is handled is set out in the distribution agreement, agreed before the first shipment.

What happens if there is a complaint or a recall?

We report to EDA within the deadlines of its vigilance guideline, trace affected lots to customers and work with you on the field action. You tell us promptly about any safety notice for your product anywhere in the world.

Can you sell my product in other African or Middle East countries?

Step by step. We start in Egypt, then take next markets one at a time through in-country partners. Each country needs its own registration.

Does shipping through Egypt remove duty in COMESA or AfCFTA markets?

No. Only goods that originate in Egypt benefit. Relabelling or repacking in Egypt does not change a product's origin.

Do you have offices outside Egypt?

No.

Do you offer OEM or private label?

Yes, as a later step after a successful pilot. Each UltraTeb-branded product family needs its own EDA registration, because changing a registered device's trade name cancels its registration.

How do you handle anti-bribery?

We give no payments, gifts or benefits to public officials — including public-hospital staff and UPA or EDA employees — keep a gifts and hospitality register, and check our intermediaries. We welcome your due diligence.

How do you protect my data?

We use your data only to answer and manage your enquiry and partnership, never sell it, and follow the EU GDPR for visitors from the EU and Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law. See our trust page.

Do you publish case studies?

Only real ones, named with the partner's permission. Until then, ask us anything directly — the founder is happy to talk.

In which languages can I contact you?

In your own language. Write to access@ultrateb.com and we reply in the same language.

Still have a question?

Write to access@ultrateb.com in your own language. Zero upfront fees: we handle registration, import, customs, duties, warehousing and selling, and you're paid when we sell.
