Oxoid MacConkey Agar (CM0007B) is a dehydrated selective and differential culture medium for the detection, isolation, and enumeration of Gram-negative enteric bacteria from clinical specimens, water, and dairy products. It differentiates lactose-fermenting from non-lactose-fermenting organisms via colour change and colony morphology. The 500 g bottle prepares approximately 9.6 litres of ready medium. Recommended by the WHO for bacteriological examination of water.

How is the medium prepared from the powder?
Dissolve the required quantity in distilled water, sterilise by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes, then pour into Petri dishes or culture tubes.
