What is the difference between the IVAC sodium fluoride tube and other blood collection tubes?
The fluoride tube contains sodium fluoride to inhibit glycolysis and potassium oxalate as an anticoagulant, making it the standard choice for blood glucose testing. It differs from the EDTA (purple) tube used for CBC and from gel/SST (yellow/red) tubes used for chemistry panels.
Is the IVAC fluoride tube sterile and single-use?
Yes, the tube is sterile and intended for single use only to ensure sample integrity and accurate test results.
Can this tube be used for tests other than glucose?
The fluoride tube is primarily designed for glucose and blood-sugar testing. Some protocols also use it for lactate measurement. It is not recommended for tests requiring serum or plasma without fluoride treatment.
