Oxoid C.L.E.D. (Cystine-Lactose-Electrolyte-Deficient) Medium is a dehydrated, non-selective differential culture medium for the isolation, enumeration and differentiation of urinary pathogens from urine specimens. Electrolyte deficiency inhibits Proteus swarming, enabling clear colony differentiation. Prepare by suspending 36.2 g in 1 L distilled water and autoclaving at 121 °C for 15 minutes. Supplied as a 500 g bottle, sufficient for approximately 13.8 L of prepared medium.
