Questions & answers

How does a cuffed tracheal tube size 3 (Ultra) differ from an uncuffed one?

The cuff inflates inside the trachea to seal against the tracheal wall and prevent air leakage during ventilation. Uncuffed tubes have no such seal. Cuffed tubes are preferred for mechanical ventilation and longer intubations.

For which patient is size 3 suitable?

Size 3 (3.0 mm ID) is generally used in small paediatric patients. Final selection should be confirmed by the anaesthesiologist based on age and weight.

Is this tube sterile?

Endotracheal tubes are generally supplied sterile for single use. Always check packaging integrity before use.
